Digital Photography Graduates

CLASS OF 2009

Graduates of the Digital Photography option will be able to:

1. Collaborate

...work with other creatives in a team environment. Like the other options within the Integrated Media program, DP students are involved in all aspects of the production team approach. Graduates will exit the program with a broad understanding of media design.

2. Integrate

...incorporate photographic images with sound, words and motion to form a complete visual communication. By placing the digital process at the core and teaching workflow along with teamwork, the DP graduates will have the confidence to experiment with and have mastered the broad range of software tools required in any aspect of the creative services industry. Photographic images are seen as elements to the whole design solution rather than an individual or stand-alone element.

3. Experiment

...innovate to discover new imaging techniques. The DP student learns how a still image is altered and manipulated with the aid of software. Emphasis is on further development of an image after it is captured by the camera.

4. Composite

...combine multiple images into a new solution. DP students combine multiple images through layering, merging, extracting and cropping, to create a new visual solution. Photographic images can often be used as a sketching or pre-visualization tool for building more complex images.

5. Re-purpose

...re-sample, edit and alter digital images to be used in print, web, video and other media. The DP student knows how to prepare image files for re-use and successful translation to other media.

6. Communicate

...understand the role of photography in an overall concept or story. DP students work with photographic images as a primary or secondary method of storytelling. The image is seen as a layer or texture in the overall message, creating a mood, offering a perspective or defining a position.

7. Anticipate

...embrace new and emerging technologies. The creative services industry changes rapidly as digital media and computer processes converge in the development of design, motion, sound and image. This future requires that our graduates be capable of adapting to and learning new methods of digital production.
