Co-director, Integrated Media Program

Recipient of the 2010 MHCC Distinguished Teaching Award, JD manages the Broadcasting program and teaches many of the core classes. He brings extensive experience in sound recording, digital audio production, producing and editing having worked in many capacities in the film and broadcasting industries. A graduate of Montana State University, his degree is in film and theatre arts. Most recently he was a partner at Blue Dog Recording in Portland where he edited film and video, designed sound for picture and provided sound engineering for both music and radio clients. JD has worked for a broad range of clients ranging from Nike and InFocus to musicians such as Leroy Vinnegar and Jerry Hahn. In addition to instructing the digital audio production classes that feature Digidesign’s ProTools software, JD serves as co-curricular and club advisor for the KMHD2 college radio station. JD teaches IM178, IM179, IM180, IM195, RB150, RB151, and RB152 .

Chris earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Arizona State University. Her graduate studies were at the University of Kansas and Kent State University in Ohio. Previous teaching appointments were at the University of Kansas and the University of Arizona before coming to MHCC in 1988. Her professional design experience was as an editorial designer and art director for magazines in Kansas and Arizona. At the University of Kansas, she served as a publication designer and in Tucson, Arizona, she operated White Space Studio, a design company that specialized in annual reports, magazine design and periodical re-designs. She has contributed award-winning editorial layouts to Plazm Magazine. Chris has a particular fondness for detail, typography and the color blue. For the past five years, she served as Integrated Media Department Chair and as Associate Dean for Integrated Media, Performing and Visual Arts, during 2009-10, taking care of curriculum development, staffing, scheduling and facilities for the division. She's the 2007 recipient of the MHCC Distinguished Teaching Award.

Chris will teach IM178, IM180, IM195, GD251, IM260, IM290 and IM291 during the 2011-12 academic year. She's especially excited to teach a diverse group of design, video, photo and broadcasting students how to develop an interactive magazine for the iPad2 in winter term.

Co-director, Integrated Media Program

Jack grew up in northwest Montana,and received a BS in motion picture production from Montana State University. He worked the next 12 years in that state’s television industry. He produced daily news casts for the Eagle Communication network and also managed a production department for the Montana Television Network’s affiliate, KPAX-TV in Missoula. In 1987 as a member of the Missoula City Council he helped negotiate that city’s first cable franchise which also established its first community TV center. He moved to Gresham in 1988 to oversee the Community Television Grant, teach in and coordinate the Community TV program at Mt. Hood Community College. He has been the lead instructor and coordinator for the Television Production Technology Program since 1997. His production work has been honored with state, regional and national awards. Jack is a certified Apple Pro trainer for FCP.

He teaches IM179, TV152, TV250, TV251, IM195, IM290, IM291 and IM260 this year.

Co-director, Integrated Media Program

Dana comes to Integrated Media after serving the last 12 years as originator and director of the MHCC Professional Photography program and seven years as part of the MHCC's journalism program.  She holds a master’s degree in Communications from Simon Fraser University in Canada. She has worked as a journalist/ photojournalist for the Santa Monica Evening Journal, Lake Oswego Review, Oregon City Courier, and South and East bureaus of the Oregonian. She briefly operated a video production company, Spielmann Productions, producing videos on non-destructive testing, the use of Pagemaker. She was director of the Clackamas Community College Journalism program from 1979-1985. She also served as an associate lobbyist for the Oregon Community College Association for two sessions.

For 2011-12, Dana will teach ART260, IM150, IM151, DP251, DP252 and IM290.

KEITH ALLEN

Keith Allen

Keith's extensive broadcasting career spans over fifty years. He's held a wide variety of positions at dozens of radio stations: Air Personality, Music Director, Engineer, Program Director, Newsman, Voice Coach and Educator. This year, he teaches an intensive workshop in voice over techniques in Winter term (IM282BB: Integrated Media Focus: Broadcasting).

JENNIFER BRINKMAN

Jen Brinkman

Jennifer Brinkman has operated Brinkman Photography since 1990. After graduating from Illinois State University Jennifer moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for various commercial photographers. In the last eight years, her love of people has been the focus of her work, with an emphasis on children and animals as subjects. She also teaches at PNCA (Pacific Northwest College of Art) and her diverse portfolio has inspired beginners to create the world in fresh ways through the photographer's lens. Jennifer is actively involved in American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) where she participated by organizing, curating, and promoting eventsto showcase member's works. She recently served as treasurer for the Oregon Chapter of ASMP. She's also hard at work on a master's degree in social work at WSU-Vancouver.

CHARLES CHESNUT

Charles spent more than 5 years as senior photographer for Nike and 17 years in commercial photography and visual communications. He's worked with all kinds of products, clients, models and corporate honchos— in tight spaces and remote locations, incuding Rwanda. He teaches a first-year lighting class in winter term. JAY CORNELIUS

Jay Cornelius

Jay is a producer, writer, editor, and director of photography for commercials, short films, feature length films, music videos, and documentaries on various channels such as National Geographic, PBS, History Channel, A&E, Discovery-Times Channel, and many others. Jay will teach TV150, TV151 and TV252 to the Video students this year. He also teaches the Adobe After Effects workshops. He specializes in commercial and television productions with conservative budgets and recently relocated to Oregon. He's got a Bachelor's degree from Carlton College in Minnesota. He's owner of both Honeybear Films and Green Street Pictures.

ROSEMARY REYNOLDS GLUTSCH

Rosemary Glutsch

Rosemary has worked in the broadcast industry for 32 years. She is a nationally recognized award-winning journalist. A Portland native, Rosemary grew up in the Laddís Addition area on the Southeast side of the city. She attended high school at St. Maryís Academy majoring in Music and English. The next phase of life brought her to Portland Community College where she excelled in the Radio and Television Broadcasting Program. During her career she has worked for many of Portlandís radio stations. After three decades she continues to do voice-over work and is the Executive Producer of Simply Gardening Radio and TV. Rosemary oversees the internships of many Broadcasting students. For 2011-12, she's slated to teach IM260: Professional Practice in Integrated Media for the Broadcasting students.

JEFF HINDS

Jeff Hinds

Jeff Hinds is a professional photographer based in Portland. He got his first camera in 1990 while in high school and began photographing as much sports as possible. As the years passed, he honed his skills at the ice arena and picked up a few weddings and portrait assignments along the way. College improved his skills and after securing a sports photography internship, his career was in full swing. Jeff graduated from MHCC's Professional Photography program in 2001. He continues to photograph sports but is changing his focus to weddings and portrait work. Jeff teaches sections of IM291: Practicum this year to photo students and collaborates with Justin Myers in the advanced photo classes.

JONI KABANA

Honi Kabana

Joni Kabana is an international visual artist who started on her journey when she first picked up a camera at the age of eight. She loved talking her cousins into being her subjects so she could photograph them with her treasured Polaroid camera. Her corporate background in technical program management enables her to collaborate with clients to create compelling imagery and concepts. Joni gives back to the community by balancing her creative commercial work with humanitarian non-profit projects. Her recent work with Mercy Corps in India and Nepal garnered the American Society of Media Photographer's "Best of" designation. Joni is also a published author and maintains an active schedule of consulting, lectures, workshops and classroom teaching in addition to commercial and personal assignments. Joni team teaches Digital Tools and Workflow in the fall with Michael Schoenholtz.

JON LARSON

Jon Larson

Jon moved his design and photography business, LarsonImages to Portland from Santa Barbara, California in 2005. He's been a lecturer at Brooks Institute of Photography. Jon's expertise at LarsonImages includes over a 15 years of experience in graphics, advertising, photography, multimedia and web design. He holds a BS in Applied Art and Design from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. He's also an award-winning brewer in his spare time. Jon's fascination with creating, building and understanding how things are made has served him well— he thrives on learning the inner workings of his client's companies, and the industry in which they operate. Jon's approach to understanding his clients from the ground up helps students as they learn to integrate graphic design, photography and web design into their projects.

This year, Jon teaches GD150: Principles of Graphic Design in the fall, GD151: Color and Composition in winter, and a "design for photographers" class later in the spring.

DAVID MAIER

David Maier

Over the past 20 years, he's taught a wide range of Graphic Design classes including Publication Design, 3D Modeling and Animation, Digital Imaging, Flash Animation, HTML Programming, Web Design, and Interactive Media Design. Since 1996, David has been the owner/principle of Third Door, Inc., an interactive web development company whose major clients include Dreamworks Records, Warner Brothers Records, Capital Records, Nike, Nemo HQ and Reprise Records. He's got over 20 years of experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, web programming and is an expert in customizing WordPress blogs. David earned a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Arizona. Before starting his own company, he served as Associate Creative Director for Portland's Graphic Media and Eagle River Interactive and was Creative Director for the New Media Group of Waggoner Edstrom.

For first year graphic design students, he'll teach IM179: Digital Tools and Workflow, IM190: Web Basics and IM191: Web Design. In the second year program he'll teach several of the 12-hour intensive workshops in WordPress, Illustrator and Photoshop.

PAUL MAZZUCCA

Paul Mazzucca

Paul returns to MHCC after taking a hiatus to teach in OSU's graphic design program last year. He also taught for five years in Canada as an Assistant Professor in the Foundation, Communication Design and Masters of Applied Art programs of Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He's taught design at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Oregon State University and The University of Kansas. He earned an MFA in Graphic Design at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). He is an active freelance designer whose client list includes the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Vancouver Society of Storytelling, Corning Inc. / Steuben Glass, APRI-Minga; Coneflower Films, Hall Center for the Humanities at KU, Lawrence Public Library, Hilton Glass, and the Storm King Art Center.

JUSTIN MYERS

Justin Myers

Freelance photographer Justin Myers has an extensive client list that includes Conde Nast, Adidas | Salomon, Portland Monthly, Colgate University, Taylor Guitars, Portland Spaces and Fretboard Journal. Justin started his professional career as an animator for Will Vinton Studios where he did set lighting and construction, animation, prop and character prep. Each summer, he teaches animation in OMSI's summer program. Most recently, he studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography. Take a look at his work at Justin Myers Photography, an advertising and editorial photography studio where he produces print campaigns, private stock libraries and web-based media.

In addition to the Professional Practices class in fall, Justin will teach the second year photography students in their core photography courses, DP250: Integrated Media Photography II as well as some 12-hour photo workshops in winter term.

STEVE PRINGLE

Steve Pringle

Steve has taught a variety of Broadcasting classes at MHCC over the years. Steve's also an alum of MHCC's Radio Broadcasting program. Currently at KINK, Steve started at KUFO, moved to KGON and KNRK, skipped over to KUPL and did mornings and overnights for six years at KKJZ. He hosts a Blues show (since 1994) at KMHD (89.1 f.m.) called The Friday Freeway Blues. He'll teach RB150: Broadcasting I in the fall term.

Erik is a Portland-based commercial photographer with a passion for athletics, nature, and the occasions where they come together. Erik has worked with industry leaders in the Northwest to build the network and the knowledge-base to strive in a competitive market. He teaches three sections of IM190: Web Basics this year. Kevin Welch

Kevin's expertise in commercial radio pays off for MHCC students as he oversees their operation of the college's high definition KMHD2 college radio station in the IM291: Practicum class. He brings over 25 years of experience at all levels in the broadcasting field.

Dean, Integrated Media, Performing and Visual Arts

Janet is a documentary filmmaker, educator, visual artist. 2011-12 will be her second year at MHCC. Prior to coming on board in July 2010, she served as a department director at the Art Institute of Portland. Her office is in Integrated Media (the door just to the right of the velvet painting of Elvis).
