GRAPHIC DESIGN OPTION

Graphic Design is the creative process that uses both art and technology to communicate ideas. By orchestrating images, words, colors and symbols, designers persuade, inform, sell and entertain.

Mt. Hood Community College's Graphic Design program is a professional-technical program leading to an Associate of Applied Science Degree. It is a rigorous course of study which compresses four years' worth of content into an accelerated two-year time frame (six terms). There are more than 18 courses with instruction in typography, editorial design, corporate identity programs, packaging design, multimedia presentations, web design, posters, brochures and logos.

Starting Fall 2007, MHCC's new degree program, Integrated Media features an option in Graphic Design. It is every bit as rigorous a course of study as the current AAS in Graphic Design. Twelve core IM courses are complemented by six option/concentration courses in Graphic Design. There will be new opportunities to gain broader digital media expertise: video, sound and photography training will be added to the print and web design skills. We're confident that employers will value a versatile digital media practitioner.

In the new Integrated Media AAS degree program, Broadcasting, Digital Photography, Video and Graphic Design students will join together throughout the two years to learn about all forms of digital media: audio, video, photography and graphics. Students collaborate in teams as they broaden their exposure and expertise in new media presentation and digital delivery methods.

Software instruction focuses on the Macintosh OSX 10.4.9 platform and the Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3 and Acrobat 8.0 Pro, Dreamweaver and Flash.
